NobelWood® tropical hardwood alternative based on biopolymerisation
Foreco has developed a new environmental friendly wood modification technique. Based on wood modification Foreco introduced NobelWood®, an award-winning alternative for tropical hardwood. It offers durable and sustainable production methods and products. The Dutch institute for building and ecology (NIBE) performed an indicative assessment to determine the environmental impact of NobelWood®. They concluded that usage of bio-polymerized wood has less impact on the environment than comparable building solutions and awarded Foreco with their trademark DUBOkeur® (www.dubokeur.nl).
100% renewable building material
Fast growing softwood sourced in sustainably managed forest areas, based on the FSC certification program, is treated with new modification techniques. It offers high quality wood products that can be used for cladding and other exterior applications. Products are available in a range of standard sizes and profiles. These can be supplied either machined to specified dimensions and patterns or as solid sections that can be machined, as required. Treated products are compatible with the fire retardant treatments of SafeWood® and SafeWood® Select. Further possibilities include application of coating systems, offering extended design possibilities.
Comparison based on scientific LCA data
DUBOkeur® is a classification in which different products are compared with each other. It is based on calculation with scientific LCA data. LCA stands for Life Cycle Assessment. It is a method of calculating the environmental impact based on 'cradle to grave' calculations. The environmental impact is calculated based on an assessment of:
2. Maintenance requirements
3. End-of-life impact.
In all these three different product stadia processes take place with a potential environmental impact. In an LCA, these impacts are explained and investigated.
